I think my target identity is being white middle/upperclass.. Some of my friends that I have met think everything is handed to me especially when I tell them that my Dad is from Philly and my Mom is from Martha's Vineyard..Which I haven't yeah there are things where they pay for me but I started working when I was 14 because I respect how much my parents have done for me and my other brother and sisters. I'm the youngest of 5 and know how much my parents went through supporting all of us 5 kids. I've been paying for my car to help my parents out so they don't have to worry about paying for everything etc..
The non-target identity i have is probably being a male.. Males are majority of this country and us males don't get discriminated as much as females in my opinion. I respect women a lot and feel bad how they get discriminated and get lower pay then men just because they are a girl...
Yeah Andrew, I could definitely see why you would be targeted under that light. It is a shame our society stigmatizes people without digging deeper into the person and his or hers experiences. I totally agree with your non target identity because as males we are at an advantage with certain things. It is unfortunate, but it is the world we live in.
